Grace (she/hers) is a Kenyan-American scientist-trainee. In college, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a Minor in Art History from McDaniel College (Maryland, USA), and she is currently a doctoral student in the Cell and Molecular Biology program at the University of Texas at Austin. Her doctoral project is focused on using genetic and molecular biology tools to better understand how the bacterial stress response of the enteropathogenic bacterium called Shigella flexneri impacts its ability to make us sick. In addition to her passion for the lab bench, Grace is an ardent supporter of increasing science literacy in various languages, especially African Vernacular languages, to make science accessible and engaging to all. At Under the Microscope, Grace oversees grant-sourcing, writing, program planning, partnerships and public engagement strategies.
